About Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günter Kappler

  • Luminary in the field of research & development in teaching and practice Former, long-time holder of the Chair of Flight Propulsion at the Technical University of Munich and Director of the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
  • 1990 - 1999: "Father" of the BR 700 engine family, conception and development of the first German engines for commercial aviation in a joint venture between BMW AG and RR plc.
  • 1999 - 2002: As head of development at Fairchild-Dornier GmbH, he led the Do 728 aircraft through to roll-out.
  • 2002 - 2005: As CEO and Managing Director of EPI GmbH, he and a European team of engineers developed Europe's largest turboprop engine (TP400-D6) and led it to a successful first run.
  • 2007 - 2013: As CTO and Accountable Manager at Thielert Aero Engines GmbH, he developed diesel engines for civil aviation and drones.
  • Since 2014 Emeritus of Excellence at the Technical University of Munich and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Munich Aerospace Faculty.
  • Holder of the Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon (Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande) Other high-ranking awards: Gold Medal of the British Royal Aeronautical Society, Otto Lilienthal Medal of the DGLR, Ernst Messerschmitt Medal of the DGLR, Order of Merit of the State of Brandenburg, among others.
  • Since 2017, he has been a member of the 3DSE Advisory Board, where he supports the consulting company with his long and profound R&D experience from teaching and practice.
